Whether you are looking for ready-made embroidery files or want to have your own design digitized - you are in the right place. I work with professional hardware and software and master all important embroidery techniques from classic Redwork to demanding Free Standing Lace.
Why Machine Embroidery? The Advantages Over Handwork
Machine embroidery has experienced enormous growth in recent years - and for good reasons. The combination of modern technology and creative design opens up possibilities that cannot be achieved with pure handwork.
Precision and Repeatability
An embroidery machine works with an accuracy that even experienced hand embroiderers can hardly achieve. Every stitch sits exactly where it belongs. The Brother PR 670E sews up to 1000 stitches per minute - with consistent precision.
Complex Designs Become Possible
With machine embroidery, you can implement designs that would be extremely time-consuming or practically impossible by hand. Free Standing Lace is a perfect example - by hand you would need days, the machine completes it in under an hour.
Time is Money - or Creative Freedom
A complex design that would take 8-10 hours by hand is often finished in 30-60 minutes by machine. You can use this time savings to implement more projects or simply have more time for the design.
The Most Important Machine Embroidery Techniques
Machine embroidery is much more than just "needle in, needle out". Depending on the project and desired result, different techniques are used.
Redwork - The Art of the Line
Redwork is a classic embroidery technique that originally dates back to the 19th century. The name says it all: Traditionally, only red thread on white or natural fabric is used. Modern interpretation allows Redwork to work with any color combination.
What makes Redwork special?
The special feature is the reduction to outlines - pure contours without filled areas. This creates a sketch-like, almost drawing-like character. Perfect for vintage designs, floral patterns, or quilt blocks.
When do you use Redwork?
Free Standing Lace (FSL) - Lace Without Fabric
Free Standing Lace - FSL for short - is one of the most fascinating embroidery techniques. Here you embroider on water-soluble stabilizer, which is completely washed out after embroidering. What remains is a free-standing lace element - as if woven by invisible hands.
How does FSL work?
You hoop water-soluble stabilizer (e.g. Sulky Solvy or Avalon Plus). The embroidery machine sews a dense network of stitches that supports itself. After embroidering, you wash out the stabilizer under lukewarm water - the lace is finished.
Typical FSL projects:
Filled (Fill Stitches) - Surface Meets Color
Filled refers to all techniques where areas are completely filled with stitches. This is the most commonly used embroidery technique and at the same time the most versatile.
What types of fill stitches are there?
- Satin Stitch: Dense, glossy surfaces (perfect for letters)
- Tatami: Light fill stitch with textured surface
- Step Fill: Fast fill stitch for large areas
- Contour Fill: Follows outlines for organic shapes
In The Hoop (ITH) - Finished Projects From the Hoop
In The Hoop - ITH for short - means that a complete project is created directly in the embroidery hoop. After embroidering, you take a finished product out of the machine: bags, key chains, cosmetic pouches, stuffed animals, or gift boxes.
How does ITH work?
The embroidery machine sews in several steps: First outer parts, then pause to insert fabric, then inner sides, another pause to turn or fill, finally the closures. You simply follow the instructions of the embroidery file.
Popular ITH projects:
Outline (Outline Stitches)
Outline stitches are the foundation of many designs. They define contours, emphasize edges, or complement filled areas. An outline can make a design "pop" or highlight subtle details.
Typical applications:
Contours around filled areas, fine details, quilt stitching, font outlines
Appliqué - Fabric on Fabric
Appliqué combines embroidery with fabric patches. A piece of fabric is applied to the base material and the edges are sealed with embroidery. This saves embroidery time and opens up creative possibilities.
Benefits:
Saves up to 70% embroidery time, reduces stitch density, enables texture combinations
The Perfect Combination: Machine plus Software
Professional machine embroidery stands and falls with two factors: the hardware (embroidery machine) and the software (digitizing program). I work with a proven combination that is suitable for both beginners and professionals.
Brother PR 670E - The 6-Needle Professional Machine
The Brother PR 670E has been my work machine for several years - and I do not regret the investment for a second. This 6-needle machine is the entry into professional embroidery without having to invest five-figure sums.
Technical specifications:
Hatch 3 and Embird - The Software Combination
Hardware is only half the battle. The real magic happens in the digitizing software. I work with two programs in parallel: Hatch 3 (Wilcom) as the main tool and Embird for special tasks.
Hatch 3 - Intuitive Power
Hatch 3 by Wilcom - modern interface, flat learning curve.
Embird - The Specialist
Powerful software as the perfect complement to Hatch.
